Langhe
The land of Barolo, white truffles and Nutella !
Le Langhe
Famous for its wines, and for its truffles, the hills of the Langhe contain Piedmont's and according to many Italy’s finest vineyards. The grapes grown in this region are primarily nebbiolo, dolcetto and barbera. The nebbiolo grape is used to make the renowned red wines Barolo and Barbaresco.

The land is also renown for its typical cuisine, from the world famous white truffles, to delicious meat ravioli, from Castelmagno cheese to countless antipasti (starters), not to forget an infinite variety of deserts (after all Nutella was invented here!).

So it won’t be a surprise that a non-profit organization (Slowfood) was here founded to counteract fast food and fast life, and preserve local food traditions and people’s dwindling interest in the food they eat, where it comes from, how it tastes and how our food choices affect the rest of the world.
Within the Langhe are famous wine towns such as Barolo, La Morra, Monforte, Serralunga d'Alba and Barbaresco.
Where should I stay ?
Best way to visit the Langhe is to set base in one of the many Agriturismi around Alba, they are usually situated on top of a hill with breathtaking views over the vineyards.
Once you have found an accommodation, the region is yours to discover, by motorbike, by bicycle (most agriturismi can arrange rentals at very competitive prices, supported by the local tourism agency), on foot, or just driving around.
We have recently visited this small and cozy agriturismo and can warmly recommend it, on top of a hill with a beautiful view, this friendly family will welcome you in the heart of the Langhe
What should I do ?
Visit vineyards
No better way to discover wine than to taste it directly where it is produced! Most of producers will welcome you and show you their lands and caves before letting you taste their wines.
Best to announce your visits with a quick phone call. Beware of not to drink & drive !
Events
Fiera del Tartufo Bianco: White Truffle Fair
Every year, between the end of September and the beginning of December, Alba dresses itself up to become the capital of the white truffle. This is not-to-be-missed event for lovers of good food and wine, plenty of events are held in the region in this period, as well as courses and tours of the many castles and caves.

Castello di Serralunga d’Alba
Built in the 1200's the castle is strategically positioned at the top of Serralunga and was used to protect its citizens from attacks. With very thick walls, specially designed stairs, towers, floors and windows all impeded access. On the top floor all the window covers open only slightly so that defenders could shoot enemies without being seen.
A real medieval castle as you have always imagined, with a beautiful view over the surrounding hills

Vineyards cycling tour
Treiso - Barbaresco - Neive and return
20km between vineyards and medieval villages!
A beautiful bicycle tour, we recently did it splitting the trip in 4 parts, of course each pause had a good wine-tasting attached to it. And don’t worry, you can taste, reserve your preferred wine, and pick it up the following day with your car!
You should plan this for the hole day, with a break in Barbaresco and one in Neive, both beautiful medieval villages with some of the best wine-producers in town.
Our wine tasting recommendations
(you should call before going)
Albino Rocca - Barbaresco
This is a perfect example of how modernity and tradition should mix. A recently and beautifully renovated farm, with breathtaking view over the hills, a Harley Davidson at the entrance, and a very modern yet cozy, design yet simple cellar!
You’ll need to pay the wine tasting unless you buy some bottles, but it’s worth it!
Cantina del Glicine - Neive
with cellars from 17th century, this is one of the most typical wine farms you can visit. you should call before hand and you’ll be welcome for a tour and good wine tasting with some delicious cheese and salami.
Barbera, Barbaresco, Arneis and Grappa are the main products
